Featured Success Story

San Diego Gas & Electric

Utilizing our affiliate company, TCI of Alabama, Transformer Technologies successfully removed equipment from 5 separate substations in Southern California. Two substations required removal of transformers, circuit breakers, lattice towers and auxilliary equipment; Two substations required removal of untested bushings; and One substation required removal of two large transformers. Transformer Technologies arranged the Hazardous Material hauling and worked with TCI of Alabama to test and process the bushings. All transportation, crane work, and demolition was coordinated to minimize substation disruption and fit the customer's schedule.

NRG Generating Facility

NRG decomissioned a portion of their El Segundo, CA, generating facility. The marketing strength of Calbag Metals and the technical competence of Transformer Technologies combined during the removal of the copper condensor tubes. Calbag Metals offered the highest value for the material and NRG trusted Transformer Technologies to safely perform the work. Health and Safety requirements included Confined Space Entry, Lead Based Paint Management, Fall Protection, and Specialized Rigging. NRG was sufficiently satisfied to award the next three condensor tube removal projects to Calbag Metals and Transformer Technologies.

Sound Refining
Tacoma, WA

An out-of-service transformer, OCB, and lattice tower were blocking plans for expansion. Transformer Technologies was hired to remove the equipment and assist in preparing the site for future use. In addition to removing the oil and equipment, Transformer Technologies cleaned residual oil from the concrete slabs and surrounding ground. Transformer Technologies also performed oil sampling on all bushings to determine their PCB levels. Once proven to be under 50 PPM of PCB, the bushings were transported to Salem for processing.
